What are we all about?

Surely there are already enough Church groups in Exeter, so why is there a need for another one? There are groups with a Christian emphasis on Youth, Families, Ethnic Minorities, Homeless, and all sorts of sections of the community. We saw the need for a Fellowship aimed at serving the more mature, and often less mobile within and around our city; here we highlight some of our objectives:

What we Believe

Why should we care?

Demographics

Exeter has a high ratio of over 65s living in sheltered housing complexes, and sometimes alone in residential areas; we want to reach out to them where they are.

Relocation

Oftentimes, an elderly relative, for reasons of ill health or bereavement, has been brought down to sunny Devon to live out their lives. However, this may well have taken them away from their friendship groups, their local Churches, and their home comforts.

Isolation

Not everyone is confident and outgoing, and are not so able to "get out there" and make new friends, join new social groups, or walk into a strange Church; and so, sadly, they prefer to 'hibernate' behind closed doors, and become lonely.

Exclusion

Many Churches do not cater specifically for the older person, and even if they do, they do not consider the difficulties in transporting them to their place of worship. If they do overcome these obstacles, then the form of service may feel alien, or the hymnbook print is too small, or the singing is too loud. Our senior folk have many age related issues which need to be overcome.

Whosoever will, may come!

We believe the Gospel - the Good News of Jesus Christ - is freely offered to all who want to receive God's gift of Salvation, whatever their age or ability. The Good Shepherd Fellowship has always aimed to share this message clearly and with sensitivity, leading many of our folk through their Autumnal years, and into eternity.

John 3 v 16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life"; This is, and always has been, our mission.
